You Are Beautiful Now

Don’t wait to be beautiful now.

I frequently have clients who think they are ugly. They believe that they protrude at strangle angles, that parts of themselves are too long, too big, too small.

I think that all my clients are beautiful. But I have the advantage of seeing you from outside. I get to see  the filmmaker, the mother, the scientist, the artist, the physician. I get to see you as the sun sees you, light on your face, and I think you are beautiful.

A few years ago, my mother was looking at old photos of herself and realized that she was beautiful in those pictures. At the time, she didn’t think she was beautiful, but looking back, she saw herself as a stranger might, and she realized she was beautiful.

“Don’t wait to realize you are beautiful,” she told me, “you are beautiful now.”

Those words are a gift from my mother, that I can pass along to my clients who think they are ugly, or that some part of them is deficent.

Don’t wait, I say, you are beautiful now.

You, with the radiant skin, you are beautiful now. You, with the compassionate heart, you are beautiful now. You, with the thick, shiny hair, you are beautiful now. You, filled with love, you are beautiful now. You, with the broad strong shoulders, you are beautiful now. You, who have brought life into the world, you are beautiful now. You, who have saved someone, you are beautiful now. You, who have survived, you are beautiful now.

Don’t wait. You are beautiful now.

  1. You made my day. What a lovely and telling sentiment. Just as I thought I was old, with bad skin and knees. you had me look at beauty. Now I see beauty in so much, particularly the people I love.
