Hour Eleven: The 24 Hour Photo Project

10:00PM: Friday, June 21, 2013

I meet my bodyguard at 10pm. I don’t anticipate anything happening, but carrying around expensive, delicate equipment at a time when many people are drunk seems to call for some precautions. My bodyguard isn’t pictured here, but one of the things I like about her is that she isn’t threatening. She doesn’t intimidate anyone, but she is completely competent. It is much like carrying a concealed weapon.

We go to a burlesque show that is hosted by the Drag Queen Isis, who is personable, kind, and hilarious. My contact is Lil’ Steph, who is a sexy ball of adorable. She is like a tiny ice cream sundae of a person.

I photograph the show, and much to my delight, one of the burlesque dancers sit on my lap during her routine. This alone makes my entire project worth the price of my blistered feet and sleep deprived head.  I highly recommend the show at the Rasputin room. I have always wanted burlesque girls and drag queens to join forces – if they were a cocktail, they would be my order every time.

Tomorrow: Ice Cream

Yesterday: Over the water
