Side Effects Include: Meeting Heroes and Changed Worldviews

I today got to meet a man who ran into a burning building to save the life of a little girl. From the way I heard it, he ran out of a building that was ON FIRE, realized that a child in a neighboring apartment was still inside, ran back in, and carried her out when she was scared and severely burned.

I told him that he was very brave, and he said: I just done what anybody else would do.

I feel like I’ve met a celebrity. Or Batman.

Do you ever feel like the world is full of douchnozzle idiots who live to Ruin Things and that things are a Parade of Blech though Stinktown?

Volunteering seems to be my personal cure for these things. It’s easy, and cheap, and the side effects are that the world gets better. I highly recommend it.
