Who is J.R. Blackwell?

Engineer Agent Dr. BlackwellThis weekend, I attended GenCon, brought there by amazing publisher, Brennan Taylor of Galileo Games to promote my new game, Shelter In Place. As expected, I had a great time, met some very warm and welcoming people, and got to run three killer sessions of my game. Killer, in that a great number of characters died. Good times.

As a result, I now I have a bunch of new people adding me all over the social networks. So I thought I’d take a minute to let you know who I am and what I do.

I’m J.R. Blackwell and I’m a photographer, writer and bon-vivant.

I enjoy a sharp cheese, a sweet wine, smooth coffee and new camera lenses. I like actors, wigs, costumes, movies, concerts, artists, comfortable shoes, wild hair, cheese, science fiction, comics, monsters, vintage clothing, vinyl outfits, cartoons, fantasy, noodles, live theater, makeup, hiking, reading, travel, gaming, collaborating with movers and shakers, and when my friends acquire adorable animals that I can play with, but not be responsible for.

My favorite authors are Jared Axelrod, Octavia Butler, Neil Gaimen, Filamena Young, Cory Doctorow, Mur Lafferty, Christiana Ellis and Terry Pratchett.

Editing: I am putting the final edits on Shelter In Place, my Zombie party game, before the Kickstarter campaign I’ll be launching with Galileo Games in September.

Photography: I am going freelance (scary! exciting!), so I am having a very special wedding photography deal where if you reserve me for your wedding before August 31st, 2011, I will knock $2000 off of my typical wedding price. This means that if you book me for your wedding in December 2012 before August 31st, 2011, you get this deal. Sweet, right?

Freelancing: I’m available for hire! I write fiction and take a whole lot of photos! You can e-mail me about your project at jrblackwell at gmail dot com I’m happy to hear from you. Rates for my photography are here: RATES

J.R. Blackwell is:

And that’s just the stuff about me that’s true! For example, I am the biographer of a supervillain named Dr. Mercury, and an Agent of MoPO.

Recently, Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine dedicated their book, Phenoix Rising, to Jared Axelrod and I. It was one of the most touching and sweet things friends have ever done for me. I am honored beyond words.
