Game Masters are like movie Directors, guiding the action, setting the tone, determining the style of play and the angles through which the characters perceive the world. The best Game Masters construct games with a vision. Are you Lynch or Speilburg? Buton? Welles? Polanski? Tarantino?
Right now, I’m attracted to running games that are about social hierarchy, oppression and power dynamics. I want my players to make difficult choices between freedom, love and desires. I want to make the characters suffer, fall in love, and sacrifice something important. Relationships are central to my games, with combat supporting that drama.
It’s not the kind of game that everyone would like, just as everyone isn’t into Burton or Lynch, but it’s the kind of game I like to run, and I do it well.
