This is the first picture I ever did with a duplicate of myself. It has the male/female element there, the murderer/victim (although it’s not entirely clear the character on the table is dead) sitting/laying down – I’m using costumes to convince the viewer that the two characters are not the same person.
It occurs to me that the perspective of the shot helps to differentiate the characters as well.
For me, photographs are about creating characters and scenes and sets. I’m not particularly interested in the REAL – I’m interested in a story, a character, a created vision. If we get at something real by creating characters, I assure you, it’s entirely accidental.
