I have some new followers (due to a friend saying some very nice things about me) so I believe it’s time for an introduction.
I’m J.R. Blackwell. I’m a photographer and writer who lives in Philadelphia.
There are many different kinds of fabulous photographers out there – many of whom use their camera to capture the truth about a person, to look into their souls and photograph an image that tells you who that person is.
That’s not me. I’m the sort of photographer that creates wild fantasy images, that makes trolls of men, and men of women. I’m the sort of photographer that tells stories – stories about monsters and villains and good people doing bad things. Also, sometimes, kittens.
I recently finished my first novel, which is about what happen to monsters after the end of the world. I am currently working on completing my party game, Shelter In Place, which is due out in October 2010.
I recently produced a novella called Her Side with Mur Lafferty, which is a collaboration of her words and my photography. You can buy that book on Lulu.
I used to be a burlesque dancer and before that I was a contortionist in a freak show. I seem to gather experiences that continue to make my life story ever the more unbelievable. I take this as evidence that I am living right.
Some say dance as if no one is watching. I say, live so that by the end, no one will believe the story.
